The modern obsession with stiff borders and tossing out immigrants is not ancient tradition, but a recent disease born from nineteenth century nationalism, which remains a fundamental threat to true liberty. Before that era, human beings roamed and settled across porous landscapes without checkpoint thugs demanding papers. By boxing populations behind rigid lines, nationalists trapped citizens within borders like vassals, locking people into a system more feudal than the eras they pretend to despise. The birth of America was founded on breaking free from such tyrannical control and throwing off the heavy chains of a dictatorial king, yet today's leaders have betrayed that exact founding spirit by building a prison of state surveillance. It is peak irony that commentators love to throw around the word communist at Democrats who oppose tight border regimes, when historical reality shows the exact opposite: the ultimate communist states were the ones with the strongest, most impenetrable borders, like East Germany and the Berlin Wall designed to keep citizens locked inside. Watching the American superpower go completely off the rails with this is sickening, especially as armed ICE agents roam towns and cities to police human movement like a domestic occupying force. This pervasive apparatus of internal checkpoints and neighborhood raids strips away individual autonomy, binding the citizen in a suffocating web of state oversight. Totalitarian control of this magnitude destroys true freedom, operating as a system far more tyrannical and restrictive than the economic specters these pundits claim to fear. If anyone fails to see this suffocating tyranny choking out American liberty today, they are as willfully blind as pre-war Germany while true freedom, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness require borders that are open and fluid to unleash global trade, allow people to experience the world, and actually free the people of the world.
