My Secret to Writing

You've probably noticed that when I write, I tend to do it in bursts. That's because I rarely have a lot of time to sit down and write a full article. I usually have to squeeze it in here and there. But over the last week or so, you might have seen a new post pop up almost every day. So what's the deal?
Well, my life has gotten a little simpler—at least temporarily. My wife and daughter are away on a girls' vacation for the next two weeks. That means I have a ton of downtime! No school drop-offs, no picking up my daughter Charlotte, no bedtime stories. It’s just me, my thoughts, and a keyboard.
But that still doesn't explain how I'm able to write so quickly. The truth is, I don't actually type most of this out. I have mild dyslexia, which makes reading and writing a bit of a challenge. I've mostly overcome the reading part thanks to an amazing public school teacher who taught me some great techniques. I might read a little slower than average, but I read more than most people I know.
The writing, though, is where I still struggle. I often start a sentence, get halfway through, and then have to reverse it. This can take a lot of time. So, what's my solution? I use voice-to-text.
This lets me focus on the sentence structure and flow without getting bogged down by the mechanics of typing. When I'm talking, the words just come out. My dyslexia doesn't interfere with my speech in the same way it messes with my writing, so I can express my thoughts more freely. After I've spoken everything out, I go back and edit. And when I need a little help checking my grammar, I use an AI tool.
A word of caution about AI, though: don't have it write your stuff for you. AI can "hallucinate," which is when it inserts nonsense or non-sourced information that makes your writing completely unintelligible. You'll end up with a post that's grammatically incorrect and just plain weird.
So there you have it—my little secret to writing. It's all about using voice-to-text to get the words down and then editing to make them shine. Thanks for reading! Have a great day.
